Mississippi Private Investigator Licensing Requirements
Currently, a private investigator license is not required for the state of Mississippi. Since laws change frequently, those who are interested in becoming a detective, or those who are already operating as a private eye in other states, should check with the appropriate Mississippi state licensing agency to determine if a license is required.
Other special licensing requirements such as education requirements, experience requirements, examinations, and insurance may be required. In addition, a business license may be required to operate legally in the state. Check the state licensing website for more information.
Join an Investigation Association
If you plan to conduct investigations in the state, we recommend that you join the Mississippi Private Investigator Association (MPIA). The MPIA is a non-profit organization comprised of professional private investigators in the state.
Their goal is to advance the investigator and security profession through education and legislation. Joining the association will plug you into what is going on in the state from a legislative perspective. In addition, you’ll get access to training and educational resources. In addition, it is a great resource to help you network with others and grow your business.
