Overview of the Moonlighting TV Series

Moonlighting is an American television series that first aired on the ABC television network from March 3, 1985, to May 14, 1989.  The ABC network showed a total of 66 episodes of the Moonlighting TV series. The television show starred actor Bruce Willis and actress Cybill Shepherd as private detectives. The show was popular for having a great mixture of drama, comedy, and romance. The series is centered around cases investigated by the Blue Moon Detective Agency.

The Moonlighting series was created by Glenn Gordon Caron. Glenn is also the Executive Producer. The series is produced by Picturemaker Productions and ABC Circle Films. The series is distributed by Disney–ABC Domestic Television.

Cybill Shepherd played detective Maddie Hayes, who was a former model and also previously ran a detective agency. The show provided Cybill Shepherd with a critical shot in the arm after a bout of unsuccessful acting projects. Bruce Willis plays detective David Allison Jr. Moonlighting is credited with helping to make Bruce Willis a major star. He went on to become a huge action star in such films as the Die Hard Series, Armageddon, and The Expendables.

Other characters include Allyce Beasley as Agnes DiPesto, Curtis Armstrong as Herbert Viola, and Jack Blessing as MacGillicudy.

In addition, the show was known for its large number of guest appearances and cameos. Examples include such well-known actors and actresses as Tim Robbins, Whoopi Goldberg, Ray Charles, John Goodman, and even Demi Moore. Also, Pierce Brosnan joined an episode in Season 3 as Remington Steele.

The show was a hit with audiences and critics alike. It was nominated for and won a score of Emmy’s, Golden Globe Awards, and People’s Choice Awards. It received a total of 40 Emmy nominations and won a total of seven. It received nominations for 10 Golden Globe Awards and won three. In 2007, Time magazine included the show as one of the “100 Best TV Shows of All Time.”
