Mississippi Private Investigator Licensing Requirements
Currently, a private investigator license is not required for Mississippi. Since laws change frequently, those interested in becoming a detective, or those already operating as a private eye in other states, should check with the appropriate Mississippi state licensing agency to determine if a license is required.
Other Requirements
Other special licensing requirements such as education, experience, examinations, and insurance may be required. In addition, a business license may be required to operate legally in the state. Check the state licensing website for more information.
Join an Investigation Association
If you plan to conduct investigations in the state, we recommend joining the Mississippi Private Investigator Association (MPIA). The MPIA is a non-profit organization comprised of professional private investigators in the state.
They aim to advance the investigator and security profession through education and legislation. Joining the association will plug you into what is happening in the state from a legislative perspective. In addition, you’ll get access to training and educational resources. In addition, it is a great resource to help you network with others and grow your business.
