New Hampshire Police Seize Counterfeit Goods

June 14, 2011 - HAMPTON, N.H.

New Hampshire Police announced that they have seized hundreds of unlicensed clothing products and other items in a store along New Hampshire's Hampton Beach. Lt. Daniel Gidley of the Hampton Police Department says the seizure of the items Monday from the Shirt Mania store came after a complaint was filed by a private investigation firm that was contracted by major sports organizations such as the National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Basketball Association (NBA).

 Police say the counterfeit clothing included shirts and sweatshirts that depicted logos of brands such as Corona, Coor's, the New York Yankees, SpongeBob SquarePants, and others.

Hampton police said private investigators hired by the NHL, NBA, MLB and NFL told them that items at Shirt Mania on Ocean Boulevard were not officially licensed. Armed with a search warrant, police seized 500 items.

"There were Red Sox items, NFL items, NHL items -- especially the Bruins, given the current situation with the Stanley Cup playoffs -- that were identified as being counterfeit," said Lt. Daniel Gidley. "We seized hundreds of either clothing products or transfer products that were counterfeits."

The case is still under investigation

The manufacturing and sale of counterfeit goods is a misdemeanor.
